Safety and Security

Fire drills to evacuate the premises are carried out each term, in adherence to the Local Authority guidelines.

A School Crossing Warden is on duty outside the school on Windmill Balk Lane before the morning session and following the end of the school day. There is no crossing warden at lunch time.

Parents are asked to be especially careful if picking children up in their car—poor parking can create real difficulties and poor visibility on the corner of Caxton Avenue. Please show consideration to all children at these times.

Parents are welcome to come onto the school playground whilst waiting for their children at the end of the day. However, we do ask that children are not allowed to ride bikes in the playground (younger or older siblings), and that all dogs are kept on a lead and properly under control.

If a ‘different’ person is to collect your child at the end of the day, please notify the school in advance. Friends or relatives known to the school, who may often collect the children are fine, but if there are unusual arrangements we need to know.

When undertaking any activities out of school other than in the immediate locality, the children are insured under the LEA scheme. Full risk assessments are made for all out of school visits. Only qualified instructors approved by the LEA are used for activities that are outside of the experience of our school staff.

The majority of teaching assistants and midday supervisors have first aid qualifications, and there is a designated first aider with a full qualification (Mrs. Prescott). A person with a first aid qualification accompanies all non local visits.

Medicines

We do ask that the giving of medication is organised so that it does not need to be given in school if at all possible. However, we will give children medicine in school provided the following is carried out:

This applies to ALL medicines, including over the counter preparations such as paracetamol. A Copy of the form can be obtained from the school office.

School Security

The security policy of the school is to prevent access to the building during the day to unau- thorised persons, whilst allowing free movement out of the building in the case of an emergency.

Any parent / carer with personal concerns about the safety of their child MUST let the school know immediately, and we will work together to ensure that suitable arrangements are put in place.
