Adwick Park Junior School caters for children in keystage two, from age 7+ to age 11+. The school building was built at the end of the nineteenth century (about 1898, we think), so it really is a grand old lady! Although the building has of course been updated over the years, it does retain some of the original features which add to its beauty – the main hall, with its lovely vaulted ceiling (and good acoustics) is an excellent example. We do take our building for granted, but if you should visit, do have a closer look! There are some parts that have been hidden for ever – we are told that there are extensive cellars, but we can no longer get to them! We are situated in an old mining community, and although the mines themselves have long gone, we want our children to be proud of their heritage, and therefore local history is a strong feature of the curriculum. |

We have a good ICT suite and each classroom has an interactive Whiteboard installed, to enable us to enrich the learning experience across all subjects. Although we are ‘in the middle’ of the estate, we do have large playgrounds, with plenty of room for the number of children using them. We have a small grassed playing area, which is certainly big enough to practise sports skills, but if we need to have a bigger sports space, we ‘borrow’ some from the local secondary school, which is just across the road. |

Children come to us at the start of key stage two, at seven years old. The main ‘feeder’ school is Adwick Washington, and we work together to ensure that we have similar systems, as far as possible, and that we build on the prior learning at Adwick Washington to ensure good progress throughout the key stage.
